(Three poems were handed to Filip Mueller as he was standing in the gas chamber at Auschwitz-Birkenau on March 8, 1944.
The author remains unknown...
The lyrics were pulled from two of these poems.
They were titled "We the Dead Accuse" and "Foreign Grave".)

No crosses rot upon our graves.
No headstones gently lean.
No lattice wrought or twined wreaths.
No bowing angels screen.
No willow tree or gold-writ rhyme.
No candle never quenched.
We rot in pits white-splashed with lime.
With rain, our bones are drenched.

Our whitened skulls without defense,
remble on barbed wire fence.
Our scattered ash fills many an urn,
and still, the bodies burn.

Ashes upon ashes,
our scattered ashes fill many urn.
Ashes upon ashes,
and still the bodies burn.

Leaning cross and helmet severed,
marked with rickety cross of birch.
The grave to terrible sore congeals,
among the bones the lost ideals.

Our numbers grow by day and night;
we swell beneath your ground.
And upward press until our might,
will burst our earthy bound.
Then skull to skull and bone to bone;
we’ll mount the judgment throne.
And bring to all the fearful news,
Lo! We, the dead, accuse!
